How to get involved

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. By volunteering, you allow us to keep costs down, but that is really just the tip of the iceberg. This hands on support helps us accomplish more, and we have found that our volunteers genuinely enjoy being connected to those in the local community whose lives they are affecting.

Just a few of the ways to help include:

  • giving your time to address the needs of the community
  • planning and staffing events, activities and programs
  • free up funds to agencies and programs by reducing labor costs
  • serving on our Board of Directors
  • When you volunteer, you’re touching people’s lives directly. When volunteers are asked why they do it, they usually respond that yes, they enjoy doing something for others, but the most compelling reason is that it makes them feel great!

In the world of community service, those who are able to contribute a small amount of their time make a tremendous difference. We understand that there are all types of volunteers, with varying needs and specialties. Our volunteers are the most effective when working directly with a cause or program that inspires them, but luckily, we have over twenty agencies with lots of needs, and all of them are only a phone call away.

With your help, our programs can make the biggest difference in the local community, by insuring that the funds we raise provide direct support to those in need. Instead of having to hire workers to do home repair, help out a senior citizen in need, or mentor a local teen, we are able to utilize volunteers to stretch our funding to its maximum effectiveness.

Our partner agencies are actively seeking volunteers! You can request volunteering information in one click on our agency pages.

About our volunteer of the year

Linda Bridgmon receives award for Volunteer of the YearEvery organization has at least one superhero. You know them. They are the ones with the real (or imaginary) red cape that swoop in to save the day just when you think all is lost and the inevitable doom is approaching!
Our 2011 Volunteer of the Year is such a superhero. This person cares more for people in need in Aiken County than for herself. She gives and gives and gives – and, well, then gives some more. She is amazing!

Our volunteer of the year has been involved with United Way for twenty-three years! She was the 2006 SRS Employee Campaign Chair.

Our volunteer of the year worked around the clock. She worked sick. She inspired all of us at United Way and she inspired her fellow employees that helping others is more important than being concerned about yourself. As a result of her leadership, the SRS Employee Campaign surpassed its goal. Without her leadership, the grand campaign total you are about to see revealed, may not have been possible.

Our Volunteer of the Year epitomizes what LIVE UNITED is all about! She is selfless and passionate. She is our hero! Our 2011 Russ Foret Volunteer of the Year recipient is Linda Bridgmon. Thank you Linda, for all that you do for our community and for United Way of Aiken County!
