Hi Ginny,

Unfortunately the "supplies list" can be fairly extensive at times. We try to purchase the basic items for students in need like pencils, paper, notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, rulers, erasers, dividers, etc. We take all of the items that we either purchase or have donated and divide them up amongst all of the schools in Aiken County and the schools give them out to kids on an as needed basis. If you have any other questions about the program, please feel free to call our office at 803.648.8331.

Thanks,

Candis Moyer

When I was in grammar, junior and then high school, my family struggled financially. There were five children in my family, and it was hard to get what we needed for back to school, especially school supplies. I remember dreading the "supplies list".

I have seen the lists posted by the various local schools (not this year, but in years past) and they are VERY specific and quite restrictive. In today's economy, and with so many families struggling to make ends meet, why can't the schools limit the "necessary" supplies to something like, "notebook paper, pencils, pens, binders and notebooks"? It would certainly make shopping easier, and less expensive, for parents as well as those wishing to purchase supplies to "stuff the bus". (The argument against notebooks with spiral metal "rings" is ridiculous, by the way.)

I look forward to hearing from you, and please feel free to post my comment whenever and wherever you believe it would help.

Sincerely,

Ginny Bolt

As Property Manager of Churchill Commons Apartment Homes, we would like to be involved in the collection and donation of school supplies for those in need in Aiken County. If you could provide a list of needs and dates, we would like to begin a donation drive, at our location beginning July 18-?

Please contact me at 803-642-7070, or email. Thank you!
